The Sermon on the Mount

Known to many as the most important speeh in history. The Sermon was preached by Jesus from a mountainside outside of Capernaum in Galilee. Jesus lays down the most sublime moral standards ever contemplated by man and explains life in the kingdom of heaven; the Lord's Prayer; the Golden Rule; Jesus lays down a virtually unattainable moral standard: "You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect" (Matt. 5:48) Jeus begins His sermon with a series of beatitudes, which are the esence of the sermon. Beatitudes begin with the pronouncement "blessed are".

The Bible contains 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New. The Old Testament covers a far longer time period than the New Testament - from the creation of the world until 400 years efore Christ arrived.
